The 31 Best Films Of 2011 - No. 27
Senna

Formula One has never been a sport that interested me. I like to have a rough idea as to what’s going on during the season but I rarely to I sit down to watch a race no matter the circumstances. That being said, there was something that drew me to Senna the second I discovered it’s existence. Even though you don’t have to posses any understanding of motor racing to know or appreciate what Ayrton Senna was to the sport, a film on his career you’d think would be aimed at a market of people who did, but it became very evident very quickly that this film was so much more than documentary for those people. With it’s unorthodox approach to documentary film making, Senna was one of the most fast paced but wonderfully endearing documentaries that I’ve ever seen. I’d challenge anyone to watch this film and not fall in love with, marvel at and then be destroyed by what Aytron does before you on screen.

Need to see

I saw the first half of this over Christmas. As someone who has zero interest in motor racing it was still really good (some of the clips from Brazilian shows are, let’s say, enlightening as to what Brazilian TV is like). I didn’t get to see the second half as I had to go pack but I need to get around to it soon.
